Our Mission

At AGAPE Homeless, our mission is to offer compassion, practical
support, and meaningful connection to individuals experiencing
homelessness in the Algarve.


We strive to empower and equip those most in need, helping them
rebuild their lives with dignity, restore hope, and reclaim the respect
that every person deserves.


Why “AGAPE”?
The word “AGAPE” (pronounced ah-GAH-peh) comes from Greek
and describes the highest form of love. In Christian theology, it
refers to selfless, unconditional love, love that gives without
expecting anything in return.


Unlike romantic or familial love, AGAPEis extended to all people, regardless of background or circumstance. It’s a love that reflects the heart of God for humanity, and it’s the foundation of everything we do.

Our Vision

At AGAPE Homeless, we envision a future where homelessness is met
with kindness, community support, and sustainable solutions. A future
where every individual, no matter their past, is treated with dignity and
respect.
We are committed to offering practical support, compassionate care,
and meaningful connection to those experiencing homelessness in the
Portimão and Lagoa region. Our goal is to meet urgent needs while also
connecting people with long-term solutions.
By fostering hope and empowering individuals to help themselves,
we aim to break the cycle of homelessness and create a clear pathway to stability.

Our Services

  • Food Ministry

    We prepare and provide nourishing meals each week to those experiencing homelessness and hardship in Portimão and the surrounding areas.

  • One-to-One Case Work Assistance

    We offer personalized, one-to-one support to address the unique challenges each person faces, tailoring our help to meet their specific needs and situation.

  • Career and Job Support

    We connect individuals with trusted organizations that offer employment opportunities, career advice, and training. When possible, we provide direct support ourselves to help people move toward independence.

  • Emotional Well-being and Support

    We provide basic emotional and psychological support to encourage healing, build resilience, and empower people to embrace positive change and personal growth.

  • Medical Support

    We assist with access to medical care and, when needed, help arrange transportation for appointments, ensuring no one is left behind due to logistics or cost.

  • ID Access

    We help individuals obtain legal identification and necessary documents, key steps toward accessing housing, employment, healthcare, and dignity.

  • Homelessness Prevention

    We support individuals and families who are at risk of losing their homes by offering early intervention, advocacy, and guidance. This includes help with accessing benefits, negotiating with landlords, and finding temporary solutions to prevent housing loss before it happens.

  • Relocation Support

    We assist individuals who need to move due to unsafe conditions, homelessness, or other urgent needs. Our support includes help with logistics, transport arrangements, and settling into new accommodation—ensuring a safe and stable fresh start.

  • Connection / Reconnection

    Where appropriate, helping individuals connect with essential support services (local councils, social services, medical care, etc) Or support to reconnect with loved ones to restore relationships.
